An Educator's Guide to Children's Literature

This site is primarily created as a teacher resource. As educators, one of our most powerful resources is the larger community of educators. This site is intended to be a repository of information from educators, for educators about children's books.

We recognize that interpretation of literature is necessarily subjective. Two teachers may have two very different opinions about the same book. Far from being a challenge, those differences are a really good thing. We don't have to agree, and in fact, we shouldn't. Although you may include opinions about the quality of a book, we ask that you focus primarily on teaching strategies.

How does it work? Look through our alphabetical listing of books. When you find a title in which you are interested, click on it. Use the information there to teach that book. If you have teaching strategies not listed, email the strategies to us and we'll post them. Please include your name and school so you can receive credit. If a book in which you are interested isn't listed, email the book information and tell us all how you use it in your class.

In the list of books, any awards received are listed. The award abreviations are from Lisa Bartle's excellent Database of Award-Winning Children's Literature. Click here for an explanation of the abreviation codes.
